BCAIP
In partnership with California State University, East Bay and San Diego State University
Biliteracy and Content Area Integrated Preparation: Bridging Teachers, University Educators, and Families for Emergent Bilingual Learning (or BCAIP) is a five year, 2.9 million grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of English Language Acquisition National Professional Development Program.
BCAIP brings together preservice teachers, their mentors, content method and language/literacy university educators, and families in solidarity to strengthen teacher preparation for emergent bilingual learning.
Project Goals and Activities
- Strengthen how preservice teachers are prepared to support emergent bilinguals’ biliteracy in the content areas through redesigned content method and language/literacy courses
- Strengthen the mentorship of preservice teachers in support of emergent bilinguals’ biliteracy in the content areas through ongoing professional learning for mentor teachers
- Promote family literacy engagement through the Language and Literacies Learning Lab (4L)
