Counseling Program Application Checklist (PPS)

Step 1

Complete CAL STATE Apply Application

 Application Period: October 1, 2024 to December 1, 2024. All application materials, including letters of recommendation must be submitted by the deadline to be considered. No exceptions.

Step 2

Autobiography

Please submit an autobiography that is a minimum of five double-spaced typewritten pages, not to exceed six pages.

Quality: This document will also be used to assess your written proficiency, and thus both the content and format should be carefully written. 

Content: We are interested in learning more about you as an individual. We would like you to tell s something about your outlook in life, attitudes towards your early years, your family, your friends, your schooling, your ambitions and how this has prepared you to seek a Master’s in Counseling in your chosen specialty.

Essence: We would like you to tell s what kind of person you feel you are, how you got that way, and what kind of person you are becoming. What are the important things we should know about you?

Step 3

Basic Skills Requirement

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education meets this requirement.

Transcripts from each institution attended

Step 5

Letters of Recommendation

Please provide three recommendation letters by the application deadline. Evaluations greatly aid in the selection of those best qualified for admission. 

School Counseling (PPS) graduates of our program provide school counseling services in K-12 schools. 

 Please provide instructions to the evaluator regarding evaluation specifics in the "personal message/note" section. 

 NOTE: The three evaluations must be submitted by the specified deadline in order for the application to be reviewed.

Step 6

Certificate of Clearance (CofC)

  • 6A: Get Fingerprinted: Complete Live Scan Form. Bring the completed form to a live scan operator. Keep a copy of the form once you have been fingerprinted in order to complete the following step.
  • 6B: Apply for CofC with CTC. Submit CofC, or verification that CofC is in process of being issued. Do NOT submit the Live Scan Form. 

  • Refer to the Preliminary Credential Program Application Certificate of Clearance

The following two courses are required for admission. Courses can be in progress during the application period.
